The verdict
A neo-baroque bath palace in City Park with outdoor pools up to 40°C: the bath everyone comes for, and it mostly earns it.
Go before nine
Buy the Good Morning ticket and be through the gate before nine: it's cheaper, and the outdoor pools are still quiet. On a cold morning the water steams and the facade disappears behind it.
From the warm pool you can watch the tethered balloon rise over City Park. Do the saunas before the crowds come, and leave as they arrive.
Why this one
Rudas (Nº 2) is older and has the better view. Széchenyi is bigger: indoor and outdoor pools from 28 to 40°C, outdoor cold plunge pools at 18 to 20°C, ten saunas, a garden restaurant, a buffet and Sparty nights.
Gellért, the other palace bath, is closed for now, which leaves Széchenyi as the grand one.
What guests notice
“I went on a Monday morning at 9am and it wasn’t crowded at all. The outdoor pools were spotless and really enjoyable.”
Samaa El Zeiny, Google review
“Bear in mind that this is a tourist number one spot, so prepare for crowds everywhere.”
Daniel Haman, Google review

You want quiet. Go to Nº 3, Lukács, where most of the bathers are from Budapest.
