The verdict

Where Budapest goes to bathe: a big, slightly confusing historic complex with three outdoor pools, warm healing baths and far fewer tourists.

Go for the last two hours

On weekdays the afternoon ticket, valid for the last two hours before closing, costs 3,800 Ft. Tuesday is the day to do it: the bath stays open until ten.

Start outside in the warm pool, then work through the healing baths inside, hot and cold. Most of the people around you live here.

Why this one

Veli Bej, next door, is the more beautiful building: a sixteenth-century Ottoman bath. Its steam cabin is out of order at the moment.

Lukács has the full set: outdoor pools, thermal healing baths, a sauna world and a jacuzzi, for about half the price of the famous baths.

What guests notice

“probably 70% locals and 30% tourists. Felt a very authentic experience.”

Suzie Sue, Google review

“Know what you need before you pay because they won't tell you (English speakers).”

Skip it if

You want to be guided. The complex is a maze and not every desk speaks English; Nº 1 and Nº 2 are easier for a first visit.

Before you go

Daily 07:00 to 19:00, Tuesday until 22:00. The sauna world is an add-on ticket: buy it at the start if you want it. A bathing cap is needed in the swimming pool.
