The verdict

Roman-style baths in an 18th-century building in the Born: warm, hot and cold pools, a steam room and massages, open until one in the morning.

Book a late slot

The baths stay open until 01:00 every night. Move between the tepidarium, the caldarium and the frigidarium; one guest was told which order to take them in.

The building was an 18th-century food warehouse; the site says goods were lowered through two skylights above the tepidarium and carried to the Born market. The Parc de la Ciutadella is across the street.

Why this one

Mayan Luxury Spa, at the Cotton House Hotel 1.1 km north-west, ties with AIRE on our score. It has a temazcal, the pre-Hispanic sweat lodge, and a sensation shower, with massages from €115 for 30 minutes.

AIRE has far more reviews, 9,549 against 293, which settles the tie, and it has the water: several pools where Mayan has a sweat lodge.

What guests notice

“Underground treasure right in the heart of the city.”

Kate Hindley, Google review

“Since we only had two hours, not knowing the timing made it difficult to relax and enjoy the experience.”
