Barcelona's baths: a Roman-style circuit, a hammam with ice baths and two neighbourhood spas
Barcelona had public baths in the Middle Ages. The Banys Nous, licensed in 1169 and used by Christians, Jews and Muslims, were demolished in 1834; four columns survive in the city's history museum.
Today's picks are newer: a Roman-style bath circuit in the Born, a hammam in the Eixample and two smaller spas uphill. The four sit at least 1 km apart; Poblenou, the beaches and Montjuïc have no pick.
