The verdict
A Slavic banya by Schottentor: a fragrant sauna with leaf whisks, a Russian ice sauna and a fireplace lounge with a swing, three hours from €150 each.
Take the three hours
Every programme lasts three hours and starts with the ceremony of the first steam. Then a foot bath with pine extract, and, in the personal programmes, a salt scrub and a wash with birch whisks.
Between rounds, rest on the swing under a soft blanket by the bio-fireplace, with Taiga tea, honey and berries.
Why this one
Arany Spa at the Park Hyatt, 430 metres south-east, has a pool in a former vault and two saunas, by guests' accounts. It is rated 4.5 from 90 reviews, and its website was not reachable. Aisawan, 1 km south-east, lists a hammam among its massages.
Taiga scores 9 against their 4 and 3: the steam ritual itself, an ice sauna, and every price on its own site.
What guests notice

You want clear package terms before you arrive: one 2026 guest found it hard to tell what the packages include and had to ask several times. Ask when you book, or take Therme Wien's sauna ticket from €46.75 for a cheaper day of heat.
