Lisbon: a garden spa in Liberdade and two hotel spas by the Tagus
Lisbon has no living bath tradition to show. The Roman Cassian baths lie under Rua da Prata, and the oldest quarter, Alfama, takes its name from the Arabic al-hamma, for its hot springs. Neither became a bath you can visit today, so none of our picks carries the Ritual tag.
Three places passed, at least 1 km apart, and the list is short for a plain reason. The four strongest candidates all sit in Avenida and Príncipe Real, within a kilometre of one another, and each part of the city gets one pick. Baixa, the Avenidas Novas and Parque das Nações have no pick.
