The verdict
A century-old teak house on the far bank of the Chao Phraya, reached by the hotel's own boat, where the ritual starts before you step off.
Go by boat
The spa sits in a century-old teak house across the river from the Mandarin Oriental. The signature here is northern Thai: the Lanna ceremony and Tok Sen.
In Tok Sen a wooden mallet taps the tension out of your back. The spa is open 10:00 to 20:00; book through the hotel.
Why this one
Chi, the spa at the Shangri-La 700 metres downriver, is excellent and has about ten times the reviews. It has neither the teak house nor the boat.
The Oriental Spa is the one place on this list where the setting is as old as the tradition.
