The verdict

A hammam by Akropoli metro, next to the Acropolis Museum: a warm room, then kese exfoliation, foam massage and a head wash, from €60 for an hour.

Start with the Original Hamam

The Original Hamam is 30 minutes of warm-up and 30 of service: kese exfoliation, a foam massage and a head wash, €60. The Kouros Hamam, at €70, adds deep pressure and stretching.

To do it yourself, the self-service hamam is 60 minutes for €40, with a loofah, natural soap, shampoo and conditioner, and a therapist's instructions. The Couple Packet runs 150 minutes with a facial and a 60-minute Swedish massage, €340.

Why this one

Hammam Shahrazad, about 60 metres away on Porinou, ties with Old City on our score, 7 each. It is rated 4.8 from 853 reviews and sells 60 minutes for €45 a person.

A tie goes to the spa with more reviews, and Old City has 999. Hammam Baths Athens, 1.35 km north-west, has 1,298 reviews, but its 4.6 earns 1 rating point instead of 3.
