The verdict
A sauna on the Herengracht with a 1920s Art Deco interior from Le Bon Marché in Paris: two Finnish saunas, steam and a cold plunge, mixed and nude daily.
Sunday afternoon
On Sundays the doors open at 13:00 and close at 19:00; one guest came then and found it quiet.
The two Finnish saunas run at about 80 degrees and over 100. Between rounds, the steam room, the foot baths and the cold plunge under curved stained-glass windows.
Why this one
Nothing else in the centre passed our rules. Sauna Deco's 4.5 is right on the line, and its score, 4, is the lowest on this list.
It is here for the room and the heat: an interior from a 1920s Paris department store, two Finnish saunas and a big cold plunge, with prices on its own site.

You are not comfortable naked in mixed company: every day is mixed and swimwear isn't worn. Badhus in Noord, 2.4 km north-east, requires swimwear bottoms.

Before you go
Monday and Wednesday to Saturday 11:00 to 22:00, Tuesday from 16:00, Sunday 13:00 to 19:00. Mixed and nude every day; children up to 12 pay half and are welcome until 20:00. Closed from 10 August to 6 September.
