The verdict
A small jjimjilbang in a basement in Insadong: separate nude baths, a shared sauna area in spa clothes, and a Korean body scrub, 25 minutes for 70,000 won.
Scrub first
Shower with soap, then use the tubs in the nude, gender-separated bathhouse. The co-ed sauna area, in the spa clothes provided, has a salt steam room and a very hot dry room; one guest put them at 48 and 80 to 100 degrees.
Treatments are first come, first served: the 25-minute body scrub, with a cucumber or aloe mask and a hair wash, is 70,000 won. The Signature Package, 105 minutes of scrub, massage and facial, is 150,000 won.
Why this one
Nothing else in Jongno passed our rules. Insadong Spa & Sauna scores 9, the highest in Seoul: a 4.8 from 1,207 reviews, the bath, the sauna and the tubs, the scrub and massage, and prices on its own site.
It carries our Ritual tag because it is the city's own kind of bath, though a small one: there is no café and no place to sleep.

Skip it if
You want to stay the night or eat in: the spa closes at 21:00, has no café and allows no re-entry. The Park Spa Land, 10 km south-west, is open 24 hours with a food corner.

Open daily 09:00 to 21:00. No reservations: treatments are first come, first served, and there is no re-entry once you leave. The bathhouses are nude only; swimsuits and underwear are not allowed. Yulgok-ro 6-gil 36, basement level 1.
